You know, that time when I neglect my family and home (and this blog) in order to frantically type dialogue and description and the like to meet my word count for the day, trying to finish a 50,000-word novel.
Here’s my post on it from last year, and if you click here you can follow how things went for me in 2009.
I’m going for it again this year.ย Wish me luck.

LUCK!!!!! XO
OK babe, you can do this! Sending blessings and lots of blog hugs your way-*HUGS* Do your best and HAVE FUN with it:D
You go, Muse!
Good luck!
Wow – all the best with this – how many hours will it take a day?
Am curious to know how the organisers police the 1 month writing timeframe – couldn’t people use something they started earlier as a base manuscript, or am I missing a built in security measure…?
FS, I actually don’t know how long it will take. My pattern in the past has been rather erratic… On average, 50K words over 30 days is 1667 words/day, but I find that I do better with writing whole scenes at a time, instead of getting to 1667 and stopping. And, of course, I already know that there will be days in which I won’t have time to write anything at all.
There’s no policing, actually, it’s all honor system. In order to be declared a “winner,” you have to upload your work to the official word counter at the site (it disappears, they swear, and you can encode it before uploading if you’re worried about it getting digitally stolen). There’s no prize, per se, although there are some nice things offered to winners, like a drastically-reduced cost on getting your book typeset and printed, or great deals on noveling software.
This year I am actually going to be continuing work on a novel I started in August – I will just ignore what I’ve already written and not submit that portion to NaNo. (I *could* submit it and nobody would know… but that would defeat the purpose of the challenge, wouldn’t it?)
Good luck! ๐
Hi, good luck from another NaNoer. ๐
Wishing you the best of luck Mals!!
Thanks so much, everyone! I will be checking in here with at least one post each November week, an abbreviated Scent-and-Novel Diary.
My reviews for A Week of Violets, beginning Nov. 1, are already “in the can” and ready to post. It may take me a little longer than usual to reply to comments, so I’d appreciate your patience.
If I get ambitious, I’ll post a few excerpts from the novel (assuming all goes well)…
Thanks for the explanation of how the system works!
I know Chickenfreak is taking part, and she is also honourable, so if all the participants are like you two, I am sure all will run smoothly…
: – )
You’ve inspired me, Mals! I have a lot of free time in November and no particular plans, so I looked at the website and decided to give it a go. Now if I can just decide what to write about …..
YAYYY! Have fun – look me up if you want, I’m Mals86 at NaNo as well.
Best of luck to you, Mals!
Woohoo! I’m _still_ clueless about what I’m writing this year. Himself suggests that I write a story every day and blog-post it. But, no. That’s emphatically not gonna happen. (Come up with, and then close, a plot every day? Very funny.)
Himself is NUTS. You can tell him I said so… ๐
I am very behind with family/home stuff right now, so I hope to actually get some time to write. Sigh.
I wish you much luck and many “ah ha!” moments.
